On Mandela Day, Benchmark International’s Johannesburg and Cape Town offices united with various corporates, schools, families, and individuals to support FoodForward SA, dedicating their 67 minutes to a cause that is crucial for the wellbeing of many South Africans. This initiative enabled the participants to contribute meaningfully to the ongoing battle against hunger and food insecurity in South Africa.
Mandela Day, celebrated each year on 18th July, marks the birthday of Nelson Mandela. The tradition of dedicating 67 minutes of service stems from Mandela’s 67 years of activism and his call for people to contribute 67 minutes of their time to make a positive impact in their communities.
FoodForward SA is a non-profit organisation committed to addressing hunger in South Africa by recovering surplus food from the supply chain and redistributing it to communities in need. These beneficiaries include orphanages, women's shelters, and community kitchens, all working to provide meals to those who need them most.
Maritza Sander, director at Benchmark International, said about the initiative: “Our participation in this event was both humbling and motivating. It reminded us of the power of collective effort and the difference we can make when we come together for a common cause, serving a community of people that are less fortunate than ourselves.”
Benchmark International is proud to have been part of such a significant effort and remain committed to supporting initiatives that foster positive change in our communities.
