Mr. Jonkman brings a wealth of expertise in investment management, strategic development, and entrepreneurship, making him an indispensable asset to the team at Benchmark International. Growing up with entrepreneurial parents, Michiel was immersed in a business-oriented environment from a young age, nurturing his natural affinity for innovation and leadership. His diverse experiences including travelling across Africa, as well as completing an MBA in Finance and Strategy in China, have broadened his global perspective and deepened his understanding of complex financial markets.

As Managing Partner for the Benelux region at Benchmark International, Michiel plays a pivotal role in driving the firm’s strategic growth in the region. Tasked with establishing and expanding the company’s presence, he is responsible for building and leading a new office in Amsterdam from the ground up. In this capacity, Michiel oversees all aspects of the business, from spearheading business development initiatives to cultivating client relationships and leading transaction strategies. His entrepreneurial mindset, combined with his strategic and financial acumen, positions him to guide Benchmark International’s efforts in creating value for clients and accelerating growth across the Benelux market.

Most recently, Michiel served as a Senior Investment Manager at Invest-NL, where he played a pivotal role in shaping and expanding an investment firm aligned with the Dutch government’s objectives. His work focused on enhancing economic sustainability and competitiveness by financing innovative companies, particularly in the energy transition sector.

Prior to this, Michiel was involved in M&A and private equity, where he honed his skills in identifying and capitalising on growth opportunities. He holds an MBA from the prestigious China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai, which further underscores his global perspective and his ability to navigate complex international markets.

From studying and working internationally, Michiel is fluent in Dutch and English, proficient in German, and has basic Mandarin skills.
