Benchmark International Successfully Facilitated the Transaction Between Copernus Limited and Suempol Sp.z o.o

Benchmark International is pleased to announce the acquisition of Copernus by Suempol.

Located in Hull, UK, Copernus is one of the largest independent, family-owned seafood processing specialists in the UK, with Lidl as one of its key clients. Copernus has experienced significant growth over the years, becoming a producer of various kinds of fresh refrigerated products that are on the shelf of top UK retailers. The company's product range consists of salmon, cod, and haddock, along with other fish species. Annually, the plant generates approximately 52 million portions of seafood.

With its main office and production facility located in Bielsk Podlaski, Poland, Suempol is the oldest and amongst one of the largest producers of smoked salmon in Poland. The company was founded in 1989, and its present position is strengthened by its global presence. Suempol’s primary business is producing and selling cold- and hot-smoked salmon, as well as delicatessen products. It exclusively sources salmon that is certified to the standard of either the Aquaculture Stewardship Council or Best Aquaculture Practices programmes.

Following the recent acquisition of Copernus, Suempol is looking to strengthen its presence on the market by offering new species of fish, allowing the company to provide a wider range of products to its customers. Both Copernus and Suempol have established supply partnerships with Lidl, and the transaction presents Suempol with significant opportunity to further develop its presence within the UK market.
