BENCHMARK INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS WITH PCREFURB TO ENHANCE EDUCATION AT THE EXCEL & EXCEED CENTRE AT CYGNET HOSPITAL BURY

August 25, 2023

In a significant collaboration aimed at transforming educational opportunities for young individuals facing complex challenges, Benchmark International, in association with charity organisation PCrefurb, has donated three iPads to The Excel & Exceed Centre at Cygnet Hospital Bury, an NHS secure psychiatric hospital school located in Ashton.

The Excel & Exceed Centre at Cygnet Hospital Bury caters to the educational needs of young people aged 12 to 17 who find themselves at a critical juncture in their lives. The school's students, hailing from different corners of the country, are grappling with acute psychological distress and have been placed at the hospital due to a lack of available beds closer to their homes. The school serves as a vital anchor for these young individuals, providing them with an opportunity to reconnect with education as they work towards recovery.

The recent collaboration between Benchmark International and PCrefurb marks a turning point for the school's curriculum. With a forward-thinking approach, the school is introducing expressive arts into its educational offerings, and come September, music will be among the innovative options available to the students. Particularly noteworthy is the school's desire to provide GarageBand software tuition, a powerful tool for music creation, but this endeavour necessitated access to iPads.

"Education has the potential to be a guiding light for young people navigating their way through challenging circumstances," said Steve Lafferty of PCrefurb. "We are thrilled to join hands with Benchmark International to provide The Excel & Exceed Centre at Cygnet Hospital Bury with the technology required to expand its curriculum and offer music education through GarageBand software. This contribution has the power to make a profound impact on these students' journeys to recovery."

The donation of three iPads from Benchmark International will catalyse a significant enhancement in the school's curriculum, enriching the expressive arts offerings and paving the way for students to explore the world of music creation and self-expression.

The collaborative effort between Benchmark International and PCrefurb exemplifies a dedication to fostering education and well-being for young people facing unique challenges. This donation will undoubtedly serve as a catalyst for transformation, enabling students at The Excel & Exceed Centre at Cygnet Hospital Bury to find solace, expression, and recovery through the realm of music and technology.
